"That crazy dream again - it must be the tenth time. What does it mean?
I can't remember ever having dreamed in color before ...
Well, I'll take a little walk and shake it off. Hopefully they'll soon announce when I have to launch the shuttle for our exploratory flight."
63
"Hi, big guy! Did you get enough sleep?"
64
"Christine! It's sure good to see you, honey!
I feel awful. You were right last night, I should have stayed with you. I had that crazy dream again. It's getting... clearer... every time."
65
"It's crazy all right. You're not usually affected like this. It must have something to do with the over-c jump. Stay with me tonight and I will drive away those awful nightmares!"
66
"The dream began before the jump and it's not really that scary. It's just so intense.
Never mind, what's the use. I'll just walk around for a while longer. Maybe I'll run into Captain Brandt and find out when I have to launch with Snoopy."
67
"Snoopy? Haven't you ...? Boy, you must have slept sound. You could hear the explosion through the entire section!"
68
"Explosion? Get to the point! What are you talking about, Chris? What happened to Snoopy?"
69
"He took control of the over-c COM unit during the jump. It overloaded and pretty much exploded. They say bits of him were all over the place."
70
"Oh man... that's awful! Boy, it sure makes you stop and think! That makes Hofstedt the only government official on board."
71
"Yeah, and I've heard you are going to make the exploratory flight with Hofstedt now instead of Snoopy."
72
"Well, if that isn't a great start to my day. But, I guess, things aren't so bad... Hofstedt is O.K. and the accident really doesn't change anything in my flight plan. I'll have to talk to Joe about it."
73
"Your buddy is assigned to the Northeast section today, near the access to the communications room.
Well, I have to get going now - I still have a lot of work to do. See you later, sweetie."
74
"Bye, Christine."
75
This door is locked.
76
"Excuse me, Driscoll! Don't get mad, but I would like some privacy. Please stay outside."
77
"There is nothing to see here. Please move along."
78
{INK 001} This is Rainer Hofstedt - physicist, xenobiologist, and government inspector. He seems excited to see you.
79
"Driscoll, hello! I am so pleased I ran into you! Have you heard about Inspector Beegle's unfortunate demise?"
80
"Hello, Hofstedt. Yes my girlfriend just told me about it. It's really too bad-it must have been a horrible sight!"
81
"That stubborn British blockhead! He was no engineer, but he should have known the risks involved in operating the COM unit during the over-c jump. We're still a long way from completely understanding this whole beyond-light-speed technology. The poor devil!"
82
"That makes you the only government official on board now, right?"
83
"Yes, I'm the only snoop left-please don't remind me. Anyway, I spoke with Captain Brandt. He still intends to carry out the exploratory flight-and with humble me instead of Beegle. Well, Driscoll, it looks like you've got a new passenger now."
84
"I don't want to seem heartless, but it's all the same to the shuttle-it needs two people. As far as I am concerned, the flight can take place as planned."
85
"Yes, I agree. And, I must confess I am very excited about the flight. The take-off should be within the next couple of days. We must wait for the Captain's announcement."
86
"Well, I guess that is all for now. I'm sure we'll see each other before then. See you later, Hofstedt"
87
"Yes, till then, Driscoll."
88
"Hello, Driscoll. Good luck with your flight."
89
{INK 001} The security guard casts a suspicious glance at Tom. He doesn't answer.
90
"Hello, Driscoll! I heard you have a new passenger since they scraped the inspector off the wall.
Anyway, I'm crossing my fingers for your flight."
91
"Hi, Tom. Sorry, I'm in a bit of a rush. I'm really booked up right now! I'll catch you later."
92
"Hello, Tom. I'd like to see inside the COM room, you know, where Snoopy got it. Too bad there's a security guard at the door."

In this connection, McDermott pointed to the constantly growing religious sects, behind which, as a rule, there is nothing but an attempt to access the followers' belongings by brain- washing. Particularly shocking is the high number of juveniles who easily fall victim to such methods. McDermott announced an increased monitoring of the Vatican by European agents. In particular, he would like to keep the enormously increased armaments industry of the Vatican under observation. Recently, indications are increasing that the Vatican has biological weapons at its disposal."

According to the company spokesman, the ship's radio unit was out of order. Of course, the ship itself is continuing to send location signals from a desert planet called Nugget in sector HR-13-4198. From this, it is assumed that the ship's systems are operating normally and in a few years the first freight ships from the Toronto will arrive on Earth. Therefore, a rescue mission is unnecessary and also would take too long since a trip to this planet would take at least three years. As a result of this press report, the price of DDT stock market shares increased only slightly."

{CNTR}{INK 002} Please consider that this is only a preview version. We would like you to excuse any bugs, missing parts, or unrefined areas.
{JUST}{INK 001} BRIEF INFO FOR THE PREVIEW VERSION:
You are TOM DRISCOLL, a shuttle pilot on board the Toronto. The Toronto is a factory spaceship from a large corporation on Earth. The ship's mission is to mine raw materials on a large scale. The destination of the Toronto is the planet NUGGET, a desert world with extremely high amounts of raw materials.
Shortly, you are to make an exploratory flight with a government inspector, Mr. Beegle, also called SNOOPY. The exploratory flight will take place in a small shuttle which can make a close-up, more detailed investigation of the planet.
{LEFT} People you know best:
CHRISTINE - engineer and your girlfriend.
RAINER HOFSTEDT - scientist and second government official on board.
JOE - engineer and an old friend of yours.
{JUST} This scenario serves as introduction to the story. There aren't many battles yet. Speak with people so you can learn more about your situation. There are also many puzzles to be solved. And, if you are successful, you can get an object which can make your journey through the game even easier.
The action starts immediately after the introduction (see CD). TOM wakes up from a strange dream and begins his day.
{CNTR}OFF WE GO!
172
When Tom goes out into the corridor, he sees Christine, his girlfriend, approaching him.
He goes to talk to her.
173
{FAHI} - SCRIPT SEQUENCE - {NORS} Here begins a script sequence which presents the flight to Albion, the crash, the first steps on the planet, the explosion of the shuttle, and the awakening at the Iskai.
174
"Okay Driscoll, everything is ready for your flight."
175
"All data required for course determination are available to you in the shuttle systems, Mr. Driscoll.
During the flight, I will communicate directly with you so we can immediately evaluate the transmitted data."
176
"You know your orders: carry out measurements in orbit and on site to verify the probe data. Get Mr. Hofstedt down safely, Driscoll.
Good luck."
177
"Thank you, sir. I'll do my best.
Are you ready, Hofstedt?'
178
"Sure! Step on it, Driscoll!'
179
Tom meets Captain Brandt, his passenger, Rainer Hofstedt, and the android body of Ned (the AI system of the ship), near the shuttle.
180
Tom brings the shuttle safely out of the mother ship.
The little spaceship has a powerful engine and they are near the target planet after only a couple of hours . . .
181
"My old buddy Joe is working up there at the end of this corridor.
I should go see him."

{INK 003} This demo contains the first two unaltered scenarios of the complete game.
ALBION has many different features such as combat magic, traders, and trainers that do not appear until you've played for a while. If you would like a quick glance at a couple of battles and a 3-D dungeon, you can load the saved game called 'DEMO'. The game will begin with a cave entrance to the west, while off to the southwest is a city. Try out the fire ring which Rainer Hofstedt has with him in battle!
Here's how you play:
WALK by pressing the left mouse button. If you want to DO something, press the right mouse button.
In regards to the story:
You are Tom Driscoll, pilot on board a gigantic factory spaceship, the Toronto. Your job is to make an exploratory flight to the target planet in a small shuttle with a government official. Speak with the people in the Toronto in order to learn more about your situation. TIP: Weapons and ammunition can be found in this first scenario-just in case you encounter a battle.

71
Joe gets to work.
72
"Let's see. I'm no expert with these consoles, but this has to..."
73
Suddenly, Joe is interrupted by a voice on the loudspeaker!
74
"Tom Driscoll, Joe Bernard, stop your activities on the control console immediately.
Some security personnel are already on the way. I must take both of you into custody. Do not resist; the security personnel are armed."
75
"Oh no! The AI!"
76
"Ned! Do you and Brandt really think you can conceal the truth about this planet?"
77
!
78
"Simply put: Yes!
The prerequisites are favorable and the chances are good. The existence of the company justifies taking some risk."
79
"{FAT } WHAT? {NORS} You're telling us, right to our faces, that you consciously intend to destroy this world?
I..."
80
"What's with Captain Brandt? If he cannot show what happened on the flight, he will lose his license forever!"
81
"That is right. Subsequently Captain Brandt will be subjected to an investigation. Then, naturally, DDT will be forced to fire him.
He will have to spend his life as history's richest unemployed person.
Unfortunately, I have to keep both of you locked up until the mission is over. Don't worry, we will provide all the conveniences you will need."
82
"Sure. And the moon is made of green cheese.
Joe?"
83
"Yes?"
84
"Let's go. Quick."
85
Tom and Joe storm out of the reactor room! They are looking for a lock in the infirmary area which leads outside.

79
Tom inserts the data tape with the recording of the life on this world into the console, and uses the chip Joe gave him to prevent the AI from interfering for as long as possible.
80
"Let me at the thing. I will try to manipulate the console so that the showing is blocked from the AI for as long as possible."
81
"After this, I'm sure we'll have the AI and the security forces down our necks. Be prepared for a tough battle."
82
Joe inserts the data tape with the recording of the life on this world into the console, and messes it for a while.
83
"That's it! The documentation is going out to all video screens and loudspeakers of the Toronto starting... Now!"
84
{INK 001} The playback of the recording begins and Joe's voice suddenly comes from all loudspeaker systems:
{INK 002} "To the crew of the entire Toronto installation. These are recordings which have been entered into the onboard system against the will of the ship's command. They document that there is highly developed life and even civilizations of intelligent life forms on this planet
. We, Tom Driscoll, Joe Bernard, and a group of natives from the planet have entered the Toronto. Everyone is urgently requested to leave the ship. We have decided to take all necessary measures to prevent the Toronto from destroying this world. The ship's command will try to interrupt this transmission ahead of time. Now, hear and see how it really looks on this planet..."
{INK 001} The documentary runs, uninterrupted so far, and shows scenes of the nature and inhabitants of Albion.

Overcome by stun gas, Tom slowly comes to. He is picked up by two security guards and taken into the Toronto.
2
The gas is till taking its toll on Tom.
With blurred vision and a foggy head, he sees his reception team: Captain Brandt, Christine, Joe, some crew members, as well as Ned, the AI onboard computer.
3
"Driscoll! You're still alive! You must have gone through hell!"
4
"Tom, you aren't dead! I sure am happy to see you!"

7
"Gas... Captain Brandt, why... The planet is..."
8
"I, too, think we should bring Mr. Driscoll into the medical department immediately. It's a wonder that he survived so long in this unsafe environment."
9
"But, Sir, the planet is... You must know that...

10
"I was afraid of this! Mr. Driscoll is hallucinating. He has to be taken to the medical station immediately."

The security guards are barely out sight of the others when Tom feels a sharp pain in the neck. The injection makes everything around him turn to darkness.
63
Sometime later, Tom comes to in a hospital bed.
64

71
"Joe! Finally, a friendly soul! What's going on? Why am I held here like a crimi..."
72
"Stop, stop! Quiet down, man.
First, it's great that you're still alive. We had pretty much written you and Hofstedt off."
73
"Sorry, old man. I'm happy to see you, too."
74
"That's good. I don't know how much time we have. You might have noticed that I opened the door with a doctored card."
75
"I already guessed that your visit here was unofficial. Just tell me what happened!"
76
"I can't right now! First, you tell me. Everything, short and sweet."
77
"Short and sweet? Man, you've no idea..."
78
Tom describes his unbelievable experiences as compactly as possible. He reports on the Iskai and humans and his adventures on a world swarming with life.
Joe becomes more and more astonished.
79
"Wow. I have to digest this sitting down.
If I hadn't known you for so long I'd actually believe that you were a little nuts. All of that actually happened?"
80
"You know that I couldn't have made all of that up. Hofstedt can confirm everything for you if he had not remained with the Dji Cantos."
81
"Yes, that would help explain it. But that this world is..."
82
"Now it's your turn, my friend. What happened here."
83
"Everything is going as normal. And that's exactly the problem."
84
"You aren't going to tell me that nobody here has noticed that something is wrong with this planet!"
85
"Think a minute! If you had landed on Earth in the middle of the Gobi Desert, and had seen nothing more of the planet, what would you think then?"
86
"The landing site was chosen cleverly, that's for sure. That only leaves the conclusion that the AI and Captain Brandt gave false data to the crew."
87
"Obviously. But aside from that, several things have happened.
The fact that the atmosphere is more breathable than was believed before is hard to ignore.
In addition, during the first mining, we ran into awfully strange and tough beasts. Such highly developed forms of life could hardly be present on an almost lifeless planet."
88
"And no one became suspicious."
89
"Well. The creatures were repulsed by the security forces. In the beginning there was a completely crazy series of inexplicable crashes and accidents. That kept us so busy that we hardly had time to sleep, let alone think.
The captain opted for the "brute force" method. It cost us a lot of ammunition and material, but with all of the armament we brought with us, we simply glided over all of the problems.
Slowly, all of the incidents subsided. The bonuses were doubled, and many on board just looked the other way. No one else had an opportunity to learn anything about this world. After all, you know its forbidden to leave the installation area ."
90
"It all fits together perfectly. It's now very clear why they've put me in cold storage.
I was too naive. However, I would never have suspected DDT would use such drastic methods. Somehow someone will find out!"
91
"Maybe. Maybe not.
Of course, the death of Inspector Beegle now appears in a new light."
92
"Right. He could have noticed the manipulation of the probe data and tried to make contact with his office when they discovered him."
93
"The intentional overloading of the over-c console can only be done by Ned, the onboard computer. If the AI is actively involved in the whole affair, and we have to assume that, then we should be very careful. There's not much on board the Toronto which cannot be controlled by the AI."
94
"Nevertheless we have to get out of here and talk with the other people on board! I know a lot of them. When they know everything about this world, I cannot imagine that they will continue to work on the destruction of the planet, bonus or no."
95
"Maybe. In any case, it 's going to be enough trouble just to stop the operation.
But that's not the problem. The problem is the AI."
96
"What can it do? Cut off our power? Ned may have cameras, but there certainly aren't machine guns screwed to them."
97
"A couple of weeks ago, I discovered something that probably only a few people on board know: There is not just one of the artificial bodies through which the AI communicates with us. There are dozens!
And the things are dangerous, especially in this number. If Ned is in the position to control all bodies at the same time, and gets serious, there will be a massacre!"
98
"Oh you're kidding me! You mean, DDT would use force against its own people?"
99
"You can figure that out for yourself. If a ship of this size does not fulfill its mission, it is a major financial loss.
It would be the end of the company.
That's a motive for extraordinary efforts and measures, don't you think?"
100
"O.K.
I could tell you a long story about how this planet and its inhabitants have become a part of me on my long journey here and so on and so forth.
I'll add only one thing:
This world will only be dug up over my dead body, O.K.?"
101
Joe looks at Tom quietly for a while. After pausing to think he says:
102
"There must be fantastic places in this world and I would surely like to see them.
I'm sure I'll regret it, but... I'm with you."
103
"What can I say? I..."
104
"How about 'Thank you' ? Ha, forget it!"
105
"Do you have any idea what we can do next?"
106
"We have to try and paralyze the AI's energy supply. Then, we can speak to the entire crew and the security people. I'm assuming that the security people aren't all blood-thirsty. Then, we could have a little revolution without running the risk of a blood bath by the AI bodies."
107
"I'm assuming that we can't simply pull the plug on the AI, right?"
108
"I knew you were gonna ask that.
The Central Computer which contains Ned's artificial mind is located in a special housing which even outer space conditions can't hurt. The energy supply is wireless. Our only chance lies in the central control room of the fusion power plant. There has to be a console there which can interrupt the energy transfer to the AI."
109
"What are our chances of getting in there?"
110
"Normally not so good.
However, two things can help us. First, the power plant is in the same section we're in now. Secondly, the AI is conferring with the captain, probably about you, right now. Ned's verbal communication with a human being always requires more computer time than all other tasks. This means that the Toronto continues to be controlled, but other CPU-intensive tasks are suppressed.
For example, the visual evaluation of camera pictures.
To cut a long story short: we could try to reach the power plant room unnoticed through the service level, cut off the AI, and tell the people on board about this planet."
111
"Sounds good. Off to the power plant."
112
"That's all you can say about it?
Well. First, we have to find an access to the service deck. They have cleared this section, but we shouldn't leave this section, otherwise we'll have security down on our backs immediately. They will lock us up before you can let out a peep of your story."
113
"Sounds good! Let's go!"
114
A door opener.
Beside the keypad there is a slot for inserting code cards.
The code has already been entered.
115

116
"There has to be a service panel behind this door where we can climb down into the service level."
117
"This lock leads outside. It's sure to have a high alarm priority. If we open it, we'll have the AI and the security forces down on our necks immediately."
118
"This goes into the main area of the medical station and the quarters of the security forces. There's a lot of people there. It would be better if we try and find an entrance to the service level from here."
119
"Can you open the door? It shouldn't be more difficult than how you opened my door, right?"
120
"Oh, probably. But, I only had {FAT } one {NORS} programmable card. Do you know how difficult it is to come by those things? Moreover, it looks as if this door can only be opened with a code."
121
"And where are we to get this code?"
122
"No idea."
123
Here's a piece of paper with a code number on it.

135

136
A number of stimdrinks are stored here.
137
"Well, from that paper we found, man!"
138
A ladder. It leads downward.
139
On the way through the service deck, Tom and Joe barely escape the security forces.
They run quickly through the infirmary area to find the lock to the outside.
140
Tom and Joe have almost reached the lock to the outside, when they see one of the AI bodies blocking the way to freedom!
141
"Tom Driscoll, Joe Bernard, your resistance against ship rules and your apparent readiness to go against the interests of the firm unfortunately make drastic measures unavoidable.
I'm sorry."
142
The AI body raises a weapon!
143
Damaged by the fireball, the AI body staggers around helplessly.
144
"My God!
What was {FAT } that {NORS} ? How'd you do that?"
145
"A little present that they gave me on the island of the Dji Cantos.
Any more questions?"
146
"Dozens. But no more doubts about your story."

"Good.

"Man, I'm happy that we didn't have to fight this time. I knew some of those guys personally.
O.K., let's go into the reactor room."
97
Colonel Priver and his men leave the room.
98
Just as the companions think they've made it, they see a jet black cylinder standing in front of the reactor core. Only a red control light and a device that seems to have been hastily added on one side interrupt the polished surface.
99
"That's the actual housing of the AI!"
100
"Correct. By attacking Colonel Priver and his men you have proven that you are willing to use force and terrorist tactics. I must prevent further malicious destruction of private property myself."
101
"Correct. After Colonel Priver and his men violated their employment contracts, I see that I am forced to prevent further malicious destruction of private property myself."
102
"This... barrel is supposed to be a danger to us? I can't believe that!"
103
"I don't know. That thing on the side of the cylinder looks like a high-powered laser to me..."
104
{CNTR}{FAHI} The AI attacks!
105
And now follows a battle between the party and the laser-armed AI in its indestructible housing. When two party members are unconscious, and the party begins to despair, the SEED begins to glow. If it is used now, the following final sequence appears.
The final sequence is still being composed and debugged!
106
The AI attacks immediately.
107
In despair, Tom throws the glowing seed toward the reactor core!
108
{INK 001} The seed becomes the center of a shining light!
109
A trembling passes through the enormous structure of the Toronto. At first inaudible, the metal vibrates louder and louder, while pale sparkling lights crawl over the hull.
Suddenly, shoots and blossoms in uncountable colors break through the metal!
The steel screeches as it is torn apart and distorted by the force of the plants!
110
Even those crew members who were not convinced by the documentation flee frightfully from the ship.
When they emerge into the open, the Toronto presents an unbelievable sight...
111
The effect of the seed is simpler than its creators believed, and yet stronger than anyone had held possible:
Within minutes, the giant installation of the Toronto has been destroyed.
Destroyed? Or recreated? The gigantic manifestation of terrestrial technology is replaced by an oasis in the middle of the desert. This one time, the irrational and magical have prevailed against the power of calculating reason.
112
"We..." "We're still alive!"
"{FAT } We're still alive! {NORS}"
113
The wounded companions wake up at Tom's cry...
114
"Look at that! Everything is overgrown with plants!"
115
"Yes! The metal colossus is dead!"
116
"No. It is alive now."
117
"The energy is gone, the AI is gone!
I still can't believe we've survived.
Let's try to get out of here. I wonder what the Toronto looks like from the outside?"
118
"{FAT } Wow! {NORS}"
The seed took its job quite literally! What a sight!"
119
"Ha! That's what I call magic! Fantastic! I can tell you, that alone was worth the danger!"
120
"It's beautiful! What an irony: Without the ship's immeasurable energy, such a feat could not have been possible.
The wound in Animebona's side has been closed, the pain is gone."
121
"The great adventure is over, friends. Now we must get back to everyday business. Over there are a number of men and women, including one I care a lot about, to whom I have to explain that this world is now their new home and their only future.
Let's go..."
122
{FAHI}{INK 003}{CNTR}THE END
123
"The seed detonates the reactor! We are {FAT }DEAD{NORS}!"

The Kenget take the gold from the companions which they wanted to use to pay for the High Knowledge!
{LEAD}{NAME} and the others are roughly pushed into a damp cell.
After a while everyone has recovered.
130
"Bravo, Khunag! Using that secret corridor sure was a brilliant idea!"
131
"In my time that corridor wasn't watched!"
132
"What do you think we should do now? Apart from thinking about those exquisite torture techniques your ex-colleagues have promised us..."
133
"If I may remind you, I was one of the high-ranking Kenget, and we are in possession of certain knowledge which protects us from any careless acts of our lower brothers.
This includes the following..."
134
Khunag fumbles around behind a stone arch for a long time...
135
"This should open our cell door. Let's try it!"
136
"Good! The door isn't locked anymore! But I wonder how we can get the High Knowledge now."
137
"Somewhere around here there's a passage to the facilities which are located in front of the inner area. Since we were caught in the shortcut, there is no other way left for us to take but the path through there. It is not without danger, but we have no other choice."
138
"First we must get out of this dungeon passage."
139
When {LEAD}{NAME} opens the door, the Kenget behind it look up!

"I recently learned the first combat spell. What a wonderful feeling to sense the energy flowing through my spirit.!"
157
"I exercise with the novices here. They must learn to accept and master fear and pain."
158
"Greetings, visitors. I have already outside of Khamulon. Hopefully you are here because you have a task for us. I love to show the outside world the superior battle knowledge of the Kledo Kamulos!"
159
"My training with long-distance weapons is almost over. Soon I will learn the highest stage of the art of combat: unarmed combat."
160
"Turn to Rhunagh, our Magic Master, if you want to have a conversation. For the most part, he can be found in the prayer room east of the complex."
161
"We have some very talented novices this year. Training is proceeding well. Kamulos will be content."
162
"To burn an opponent in the fire of my spirit is the purest form of Kamulos' veneration!"
163
"Yesterday, I had to read a fire spell from a spell scroll!
A fantastic experience, since the spell scrolls allow an untrained person to perform spells he hasn't mastered yet!"
164
"Visitors aren't welcome here!"
165
"The areas of the Kledo and Oqulo Kamulos may not be desecrated by outsiders. Remain here in the areas of the novices."
166
"The stairs behind this door lead into the living areas of the trained Kledo Kamulos and Oqulo Kamulos. We have no access here."

{INK 002} "Greetings, visitors. Pardon me, I must concentrate on my studies."
186
{INK 001} The novice calls out:
{INK 002} "Hey! Please keep you hands off! I would thank you to leave my room!"
187

188
{CNTR}{INK 002} "What are you doing here?
{FAHI}ALARM! {NORS} "
189
{INK 002} "You have tried to desecrate the inner areas of Khamulon!"
190
{INK 002} "Do you surrender?"
191
{INK 002} "You want the honor of combat? Very good!"
{INK 001} The Kenget Kamulos attack!
192
More Kenget Kamulos appear!
193
The Kenget Kamulos attack again immediately!
194
"Bring them to the prison area!"
195
The guards lead the companions into the mountain. The dusky twilight shows more passages that penetrate the mountain. The place must be gigantic!
196
"Greetings. We don't often get visitors in Khamulon.
Explain the reason for your presence. Come right to the point."
197
"As you wish.
We've come to propose a business deal to you.
We are willing to pay you a large amount of gold to learn of a certain aspect of your magical knowledge. It concerns the knowledge of how great amounts of energy can be harnessed."
198
"{FAT } You want the High Knowledge? {NORS}
You have the arrogance to ask us about a core area of our magical knowledge?"
199
"That is correct. {FAT } You {NORS} have asked for openness. We have an important mission to carry out."
200
"We are never concerned about our visitors' motives. You are right, your openness is remarkable.
Before I refuse precipitously, I will have to discuss this matter with the Cuain, our chief.
I will have you brought to the Guest Quarters. You may move freely in this part of Khamulon, the area of the Novices and Slaves. Do not try to penetrate other areas.
I will let you know our decision shortly."
201
The group is led through long passages and halls into a spacious room.
202
"Hmm, the Kenget's reaction was more positive than I expected. At least he didn't immediately throw us out or put us in chains."
203
"Believe me, I'm sure they are planning something we don't like.
The Kenget will never give away the High Knowledge."
204
"There's probably nothing else for us to do but remain alert and wait.
Let's look around a little. The more we can learn about this place the better."
205
"I have suddenly remembered something which I am sure you will find interesting.
As you know, I believe the Kenget Kamulos will never voluntarily release the High Knowledge. Therefore, we will have to get it without their permission.
Back when I was a novice, I learned about a cell which allows access to a corridor which leads to the inner regions. With some luck, I will find the room where, among other things, recordings of the High Knowledge are stored.
What do you think?"
206
Should Khunag lead all of them to the cell with the secret access? {BLOK000} Yes, immediately. {BLOK001} No, wait.
207
"As you say. I believe it's the only way for us to obtain the High Knowledge."
208
Khunag leads the companions to a cell in the northern area of the novice rooms.
209
"Here it is. There has to be a hidden switch somewhere."
210
"Damn. There is someone in the cell."
211
"If I recall correctly, the secret access to the inner areas is in this cell. There must be a hidden switch here somewhere."
212
"I have suddenly remembered something which I am sure you will find interesting.

213
"The Kenget are keeping us waiting for a long time. Once again, I urgently advise that we use the secret passage. There's a good chance we can steal the High Knowledge!"
214
"I will let you know where we are from time to time. Khamulon is very large. Almost the entire mountain was excavated using slaves and magic."
215
Khunag leads the others into a cell on the northern end of the novice cells.

"We're in luck! The cave-in has led us directly to the inner region! We're near the main entrance.
All the Kenget will immediately attack us here.
I will give you directions to doors which lead us right to where they store the High Knowledge."

138
"Don't go this way! This door does not lead to the room where the High Knowledge is stored."
139
"This is the right door! It leads to the room of the High Knowledge!"
140
"All doors leading from this hall go to the inner area's library rooms. They are usually well visited.
Get ready for attacks!"
141
"This is the anteroom to the storage place of the High Knowledge.
We're just about there!"
142
"This door leads to the sleeping rooms and is of no use to us. I believe we have to go north!"
143
The door is latched.
144
Arthor, the Master of Ceremonies; Rhain, who welcomed Tom and his companions to Khamulon; and Cuain, sit in the room behind the door!
Baffled, the Kenget stare at the intruders.
145
"What are you thinking! No impure person may enter this room. And no impure person will ever leave this room alive!"
146
"Rhain, restrain yourself. Especially the impure must never make you lose your self-control."
147
"Explain yourself. What do you want here? And how did you find your way in here!"
148
"We were not admitted and therefore had to find our own way. It is important. Very important. Ultimately, it will affect your very existence and that of your order!"
149
"Who are you, who is seeking death, that makes you speak here? And who are your companions?"
150
"My name is Tom Driscoll and, like you, I come from the planet Earth. Only I was born there and came here in a sky-ship. My companions are friends who accompany me on my mission. Albion is in danger. The ship from which I came here has already begun to destroy your planet, noble Cuain. We need your High Knowledge in order to stop the destruction and destroy the ship."
151
"You are a fool, Driscoll. For your heart is sincere, and does not feel the hate which accompanies you."
152
"You have been betrayed, Earthling! The High Knowledge is here, but you will not get it. The Kenget will not flee from the final war that was prophesied long ago. It seems the time has come when Kamulos calls for the Last Battle."
153
"I don't know what hate you mean, noble Cuain. But I do know that no one really knows who takes part in the Last Battle. And it has been said that men who were impure in life, may stand on the right side when they die a pure death. But no one knows whom of the living will be on the right side, when the time of the Last Battle comes. All of my companions want to save Albion. We stand on your side!"
154
"Let us assume you are right, Earthling. Let us assume that in the Last Battle the Kenget will be joined by the just men, who have not conquered their anger, but stand for the right cause, whatever this may be. Let us assume that, to win the Last Battle, I must hand you our High Wisdom. Would I do this? Naturally I would!"
155
"Let us further assume that in the Last Battle, the Iskai, even female Iskai and human beings will stand at our side. Then who stands on the other side? There aren't many left! Perhaps Khunag, the traitor? Yes, probably Khunag, right?"
156
"But who do I see by your side? Did you think I wouldn't recognize you? You were able to change your face, traitor, but the lie in your eyes remains! Your cowardice, which poisons this room, remains!"
157
"You have been deceived, Driscoll! You cannot be the messenger of the Last Battle! And even if you were, then you do not stand on our side! Why, Khunag, did you come here?"
158
"What drives me, Cairnain? You know the answer! Who was it that set me up to murder the Cuain? I can still hear your voice: 'This is your order, Khunag. The task which Kamulos has assigned you. Go and slay Arghagh!' Revenge is what drives me, and that is the only reason I am here. You used me as your tool for power. The poor creatures here are mine. You will not spare them if you conquer me, but I will. And I will even give them the High Wisdom. And that is why they will still fight for me even though I have deceived them. Today, you will see your god."
159
"What does that mean, Khunag?"
160
"I'm sorry, Tom!"
161
"None are interested in your lies, Khunag. Your sacrilege is irredeemable, just like your shame. You can fight this battle only with auxiliary troops. I've always been very suspicious about your means of fighting; always ensuring that your opponents die as painfully as possible. No, no one believes you here. But you're right, I will not spare your helpers when I have conquered you. Thus, you can see who is honorable here, Driscoll. I almost feel sorry for you, but you're on the wrong side."
162
"We have nothing to do with your dirty intrigues!"
163
"You are a fool, Driscoll, and you will always be a fool. For you are an instrument of my revenge. I loved Arghagh, but Cairnain drove us apart with his intrigues. He even succeeded in directing my good will against the Cuain. He used me for his purposes, just as I am now using you to avenge the old Cuain. I always knew that the traitor Cairnain was waiting for us in this room. But like I said: you will get your High Wisdom. If you help me one last time."
164
"He might actually do that, Driscoll. He might give you the High Wisdom afterwards. However, I wouldn't be too sure if I were in your place. But there is no more time for idle conversation. No honorable word will ever come out of the Khunag's mouth. He has desecrated my sanctuary enough with his stinking statements. It is time for him to die.
{FAT }Prepare to face Kamulos!"
165
Fleeing is useless: Cairnain, the Cuain, now possessed by the god Kamulos, immediately attacks again!
166
For a moment, silence reigns after the frightful battle. The two remaining Kenget Kamulos stare at the corpse of their Cuain, which is no longer possessed by the god Kamulos.
167
"You... you have conquered the Cuain while he was possessed by Kamulos!"
168
"For that you will die the three-year death, impure dog!"
169
"Stop Arthor! You have seen what these fighters are capable of! Certainly they can be conquered if you call the others, but consider the consequences! {FAT } Kamulos {NORS} has been conquered in open combat by impure ones! The shock will be even greater for the others than for us."
170
"By my honor, you are right!"
171
"We will explain the death of the Cuain in an honorable way."
172
"Impure ones, you have what you came for. You will remain alive in spite of your unspeakable deed. I will escort you out of Kamulos through an escape route. Never return to this place. Be silent about this event. Otherwise there is no place on this world where we will not find you."
173
Rhain leads {LEAD}{NAME} and the companions silently through narrow passages up to a breach in the side of the mountain. Without any further words, he lets everyone step through the opening and closes the camouflaged door.

A little island looms out of the fog. A place of incredible beauty is revealed to Tom and his companions. The island is subdivided by canals and covered with majestic trees. Elegant bridges span the landscape, small buildings merge into the surroundings, and a large house can be seen in the background.
A peaceful, sheltered atmosphere lies over the place.
Frill leaves the boat and the others follow him. The little ship immediately sails off, and Frill turns to his guests:
47
"Welcome to the island of the Dji Cantos, or the Enlightened Ones. You are about to see what not many have ever seen. Follow me into our house, where you will meet someone you already know."
48
The companions follow Frill without speaking, and are absorbed in their surroundings...
49
Tom is surprised to see Nemos, whom he had known to be the chief of the Druids of Gratogel, standing before him.
Apparently, he also belongs to the secret society who live on this island.

51
"Togi Din, Nemos. Wonderful to see you again, even if, I must confess, the circumstances surprise me a little."

Now, please follow me into the house. We can exchange a lot of information there."

"Greetings! Drop by Althea in the southeastern wing of the building. She has interesting offers for visitors."
116
"I like to work in this house. I have seen many places in the world, but this island is the most beautiful."
117
"Greetings, visitors! Have you come to meditate? Speak to Nemos; he knows the places of enlightenment."
118
These plants pump up water.

PHASE 2!
120
PHASE 3!
121
Tom and his companions have barely gotten use to the elegant architecture of the house, when they reach a kind of meeting room. A small meeting of humans and Iskai await them...
122
"Greetings again, Tom Driscoll. Now, before we tell you about this place, let me introduce the people who belong to our gathering.
In addition to Sebai-Giz Frill, whom you already know from Jirinaar, they include, Drannagh, scholar of magic and master of the art of creating magic objects."
123
"Welcome to the Enlightened Ones."
124
"Sebai-Dre Birrh, a master of healing."
125
"Dsarii-ma, Tom Driscoll."
126
!
127
"Irkith, scholar of sagas and stories from olden times."
128
"Greetings, visitors."
129
"And, finally, Harriet, our youngest member. She hears the voice of Animebona."
130
"Greetings, Tom Driscoll and Rainer Hofstedt."
131
"I will try to explain where you are and what we want from you, Tom. The need for brevity will make my words seem immodest.
We are a group of people who call themselves Dji Cantos, or Enlightened Ones. The very name of our organization, a mixture of an Iskai and a human expression, indicates that our organization was founded a long time ago by humans and Iskai. The members of our group have a deeper knowledge of the structure of this world than ordinary scholars. Whenever an extraordinary person achieves a certain level of knowledge we reveal our secrets to them, making them one of the Enlightened Ones, the Dji Cantos.
Our society began when the humans migrated to Albion. The great Cantos, leader of the humans, founded our group almost 2000 years ago, together with the two greatest scholars of the Iskai. They shared the knowledge of the power which made the human beings' voyage here possible. It is also the source of the magic on this world. They, and we as their heirs, know of the existence of Animebona, the Entity of this World. "
132
"Please continue. What's the significance of Animebona?"
133
"Animebona is the sum of all life on this world, and yet she has her own mind and goals. Traces of her essence are found in many religions on Albion, be it the Goddess of the Iskai or the Danu of the humans.
It was she who spoke with Cantos and led the humans here through the Land of the Fog.
134
"Excuse me, but there will be time enough later for you to satisfy your thirst for knowledge, Honored Rainer.
For now, you only need to know that with the knowledge of this world we also have assumed a certain responsibility. Since Frill announced your arrival in Jirinaar to our group, we have observed you and conducted inquiries."
135
"You know where the Toronto, our great spaceship, is located?"
136
"We do, indeed, know where the gigantic metal object has landed, Tom Driscoll, and even though it has landed in the Great Desert, it concerns us.
The ship is the embodiment of all reasons why Cantos led his people from Animenkna uncounted years ago. Now the Helromier have caught up with us, or at least it seems so."
137
"I don't completely understand what you mean, Nemos. Haven't the inhabitants of Albion discovered the Toronto yet?"
138
"According to our knowledge, no. But we are not all-knowing, Tom Driscoll.
Up to now, your actions have proven you to be a trustworthy man. Therefore, we would like you to establish contact between our people and yours. We would like to know the goals of the Helromier on our world."
139
"According to our knowledge, no. But we are not all-knowing, Tom Driscoll.
Up to now, your actions have proven you to be a trustworthy man. Therefore, we would like you to establish contact between our people and yours. We would like to know the goals of the Helromier on our world."
140
"Gladly. By now a research station should be set up. I am sure my people will want to document everything and they will also pose a huge number of questions. A group of the best scholars of this world is, naturally, an ideal information source.
Would you be so kind as to help us continue our journey to the Toronto's landing place?"
141
"Thank you for your good intentions, Tom Driscoll. As a sign of our trust, I would like to give you this little stone. It serves as a sign of great recognition of our society and it will also help protect you against misfortune."
{INK 001} Nemos places a small stone on Tom's chest. It sticks to his skin tightly! {INK 002}
"Your giant ship is located in the hot lands of the Umajo, far to the northwest of here.
In order to make the trip there as fast as possible, and assuming you agree, we would like you to take Harriet with you as a companion.
As a member of our group, she has access to perhaps the greatest magic Animebona makes available to us:
The caves of the Goddess allow fast transportation, just as when Animebona brought Canto and his people here."
142
"It's getting to the point where nothing surprises me anymore."
143
"Patience, Rainer. Nemos, we gladly accept your offer.
Harriet, welcome to our little group."
144
"It will certainly be an interesting trip, Tom Driscoll."
145
Harriet becomes a member of the companions.
146
"Although we intend to make contact with the Helromier soon, we must still make time for some reflection and discussion."
147
"I would like that very much! I would like to learn some more!"
148
"We will now return to our daily work, but everyone here will be glad to answer your questions, Tom, and particularly you, Rainer.
Look around the house and get strength for the journey - perhaps by a little meditation surrounded by nature. It has been particularly blessed by the Entity. Her forces will be strongest there.
If no one has any objections, I now conclude the meeting."
149
No one objects and the group slowly breaks up.
150
"This is the entrance to a cave where we can begin our journey with Animebona's help. Tom, are you sure you want to leave now, or would you like to spend a little more time here?"
151
Go into the cave and continue the journey?
152
Just as they all are heading in the direction of the cave entrance, Rainer speaks:
153
"Tom, let me say something. I am strongly attracted to this place of knowledge; there is so much that I could learn from the people here.
To be brief, I have decided to stay here.
I would like to go deeper into this world's secrets and I can return onboard the Toronto soon enough. Also, the members of the contact team would then have a knowledgeable contact here.
I think you can manage without my assistance, right?"
154
"We've really gone through a lot together, Rainer, and I will miss your companionship. I should have known that you would find it hard to leave these scholars behind. Too many colleagues here, hmm?
I wish you all the best. We will see each other soon: I'll come back with the first contact team."
155
"I'm crossing my fingers for you, Tom. See you soon!
Oh yes, here... take my equipment. I won't need it anymore."
156
Rainer says good-bye to all of the companions and distributes his belongings among them. Then he returns to the house. Tom and the others enter the cave...
157
"It might be better to wait a little, Harriet."
158
Tom and his companions storm into the meeting hall of Cantos' House. The Enlightened Ones are quickly called together.
Tom breathlessly reports the company's plans which the AI and Captain Brandt are about to carry out: the destruction of the planet is to continue.
159
"Our worst fears have been confirmed. Animenkna has finally caught us. We should have guessed that we'd be facing the same situation as our forefathers."
160
"And you are sure that a few dozen Helromier, no matter how big their ship is, represent a threat to our entire world?"
161
"You must understand, Birrh, that this ship is capable of growing. The installation is expanding itself more and more. It is a self-maintaining process. It will take a while, but the damage to Albion is immeasurable."
162
"Tom, you are apparently angry about the behavior of your Helromier companions. Does that mean that you are on our side?"
163
"I have experienced a great deal on this world, Nemos, and my travels have brought me close to Albion and its inhabitants. Because of this, I would have certainly protested against continuing the project, but after how they treated us on board the Toronto, I'm ready to do anything. The ship's management is out for blood!"
164
"What exactly happened?"
165
"To make a long story short, Joe here freed me. Then we tried to switch off the AI so we could tell the crew about this world.
You have to know, Honored Dji Cantos, that not everyone on board the Toronto is ready to sacrifice a life-filled world intentionally.
In any case, we failed. The AI told us to our faces that the company management will do whatever is necessary, whether it is within the law or not. Apparently, it is a matter of life and death for the entire company. During our escape, we saw why the AI spoke so openly about the plans of the company: it was a trap.
We escaped with our lives only because of the little stone you gave me, Nemos."
166
"I was counting on the company's dirty tricks, but I hadn't guessed that it would make such a direct, overt attempt."
167
"Think about it. It was a fool-proof plan: the accidental death of the inspector working with an irreplaceable COM unit. No way to communicate with Earth. By the time there is an investigation, the whole thing would be over. The government can't afford to send anyone out here."
168
"Now the question is: What do we do?"
169
"You Dji Cantos have told us about Animebona, the Entity of this World. Didn't you say that she has a kind of consciousness? Would she allow the destruction of her world, her self?"
170
"Oh, naturally, Animebona will try to defend herself."
171
"I had disturbing visions while I was waiting for you, Tom. The world, the Entity feels... pain."
172
"Think about what happened the when we started mining the raw material, Tom. I only understand half of what is being said here, but the difficulties we faced at the start were not normal.
Things got better after we threw more equipment at the problem."
173
"Animebona is not all-powerful. She is not acting against some diggers armed with shovels, trying to profane her body.
She is facing the embodiment of Animenkna, her antithesis. Her magic can do little against the principle of Animenkna, the apex of that from which our people fled long ago."
174
"Does that mean that we are helpless against the metal colossus?"
175
"We must think. I'm happy that three Helromier, including a scholar, have come over to our side. Perhaps, together, we will find a way to conquer the threat."
176
While Tom and Joe rest, the Enlightened Ones and Rainer hold a lively, intense discussion. The next day, Tom and the companions face the exhausted group's decision.
177
"We think we've found a promising solution. It will certainly be the most difficult magic operation we have ever undertaken, but it does give us a chance."
178
"Didn't you say that magic couldn't fight the Toronto?"
179
"That was precisely our problem. However, with the honorable Rainer Hofstedt's help, we have come up with a plan. We should not attack Animenkna, the technological principle of the Helromier; we should make it a part of the magic process, so we can turn the metal colossus into something different."
180
"Unfortunately, the plan has one, or rather two, glitches."
181
"What Rainer Hofstedt is trying to say is that we will create a magical artifact. Its power will be great, but not entirely predictable. And it has to be applied to a large energy source in the metal ship."
182
"To be exact, the fusion reactor of the installation."
183
"Slowly, slowly. So the first glitch is that {FAT } we {NORS} need to return to the Toronto. And {FAT } what {NORS} do we have to take to the reactor?"
184
"We will try to create something, which we call the SEED. It is an amalgamation of very different magic principles. We have most of the knowledge for creating the seed at our disposal.
However, we lack two key pieces of information. They are held by two different cultures that rarely associate with one another.
The Metalmakers or Umajo are the first. As has been said, we have to involve the Animenkna principle in our work to effect the metal ship. The Umajo work on the frontier between Animenkna and Animebona, the Entity. They deal both with technology and magic. From them, we need to learn how to influence metal with magic.
And, I'm afraid, the Umajo may not want to share this knowledge with outsiders."
185
"Understood. And the second piece of information?"
186
"There is also the matter of knowing how to harness large amounts of energy. Only the Kenget Kamulos have this knowledge."
187
"The assassin Cult!"
188
{INK 001} A slight smile steals over Khunag's face.
{INK 002} "This is the Kenget Kamulos' core area of magic."
189
"The Kenget are trained in economic survival as well. We will try to make them an attractive offer. Our community is more wealthy than it appears."
190
"I might possibly be able to make a deal with my former brothers. I could try."
191
"So, Nemos: we must first get the missing knowledge, and then, as we say, jump into the lion's den. We will use a magically charged object on the Toronto's reactor, and if I have understood you correctly, no one knows exactly what this will do.
Am I right?"
192
"Hmm, in your direct way, hmm, yes, that sums it up. You and your companions are battle-tested and are in possession of the necessary knowledge. However, we would naturally understand if..."
193
"O.K., O.K., we'll spare you any concern. I can hardly say 'no' now. If the others are ready to take the risks, the enterprise can begin."
194
No one backs out.
195
"Good. So let me summarize this:
We are to go to Umajo and try to get the knowledge concerning magical treatment of metal. Also, we are to stroll into the center of a murderous cult by the name of Kenget Kamulos and make them an offer which, hopefully, they can't refuse.
Then, you will try to develop this magic seed so we can take it to the Toronto's reactor and just wait and see what happens next."
196
Everyone nods in agreement, then Joe speaks.
197
"Here's an idea: While you are risking your necks, old Joe will work as camera man. I will record a documentary with the camera I have. With a little bit of luck, we can load the documentary into the onboard network when we break into the Toronto. If we succeed in blocking AI access to the console for a couple of minutes, we can explain things about the planet and urge everyone to leave the ship."
198
"Sounds good. Make it so."
199
"Friends, there is no reason to delay any longer. Let's go and get the two pieces of information we need."
200
The Dji Cantos hand over 1500 gold and then the meeting breaks up. Tom and the companions are ready to go and head for the cave of the Goddess.
201
Tom and the companions call the Enlightened Ones together and proudly hand them the two scrolls with the necessary information.
The exhausted companions and the Dji Cantos study the scrolls. Sometime later there is another meeting...
202
"Thank you once again for the scrolls! We have been preparing for this for many days. You have performed your part in creating the seed with great bravery. Now it is up to us to complete the job."
203
The Dji Cantos, with Harriet among them, form a circle in the meeting room and delve into deep concentration. Soon the entire room is filled with a blinding light!
204
Exhausted, one after another leaves the circle. After a while, only Nemos, Drannagh, and Harriet remain. Slowly the brightness dims and reveals the all-powerful product made from the unified efforts of the greatest magical talents of this planet.
205
"It is created. Thanks be to you, Animebona!"
206
With ceremonial demeanor, Nemos presents the companions with an unimpressive object which looks like a large seed.
207
"This is the Essence of Animebona. May Magic gain victory over Animenkna's Principle of Rationality this one time. Use the seed well."
208
"Thank you, Nemos.
Ahem, this seed sure doesn't look very powerful, don't you think?"
209
{INK 001} Unexpectedly, Nemos laughs. {INK 002}
"Just wait! The tree which grows from a normal seed, is more impressive than what it grew from.
Now it is time for you to take the seed to its destination. Tom, carefully consider which companions you intend to take with you on this dangerous enterprise. Assemble the proper party, then delay no longer.
We put all our hopes in you and your companions."
210
"We will give it our best. As soon as I have put together the best team, we will travel to Umajo Kenta, then under the mountains into the Toronto's area.
When we were fleeing the ship before, Joe and I saw a possible way to penetrate the installation."
211
"There is a side entrance with a small lock, which was originally designed as an exit for the Toronto's security forces."
212
"We will try to get in there. Before we push towards the reactor, we will try to show Joe's documentary so that the crew can be warned. This may also create some commotion which we can use to our advantage.
Joe, is the documentary ready?"
213
"Yes. I've edited the material so that the most important part comes at the beginning. Even if the AI succeeds in stopping the transmission shortly after it begins, the message should be clear. Here..."
214
Joe hands the documentary and a small chip to the companions.
215
"The chip should isolate the console we use from the AI's control for some time.
Good, my part is complete. Only one more thing: I am not a good warrior and I do not have the magical abilities of other people here. However, Tom, I would like to come along since I can help out on board the Toronto. It is up to you, Tom. Please think about it."
216
"Thank you, Joe. I'll think about your offer.
And now: Off to the Toronto!"
217
All those present wish luck and success for the mission. The attack on the Toronto can begin any time now.
