Captain Brandt began his career as a software engineer. He became the captain of Toronto and the leader of the expedition to Nugget. A bit aloof, he is doing a good job, rarely seen when not working. He speaks more with Ned than with the crew, often consulting with him in his private office. After the death of Jonathan Beegle he orders Rainer Hofstedt to join Tom Driscoll to the expedition.
